Thank you for committing your heart and resources to be a foster parent. We know fostering is hard and kids can be expensive. Many of our volunteers are foster parents too. We would like to assist you in providing basic items for the children in your care including clothing, shoes, coats, socks, underwear, strollers, baby gear, and a few toys. PLEASE visit us and use our amazing services. We are here to help you!
Normally, we would invite you to shop in our space. During COVID though, we are OPEN for you to pick up at our door. The safety of our foster parents, children in care, and our volunteers remain our highest priority.
So how does shopping currently work? Send us a Facebook message or email us at email@example.com to let us know what you need. A volunteer will shop for you and then you will receive a message back to schedule a date/time for you to pickup of your items. It is just that simple!
What if something doesn't quite fit? No worries - we will replace it or you can bring it back and shop yourself as soon as we re-open. Don't worry - it will happen soon!
What will help us get exactly what you need? Send us a message and we will get back to you with any questions.
Here is an EXAMPLE of what your Facebook message could look like: 18-month girl who grew out of everything. She needs lots of shirts, a few pants, 3pr of pajamas, diapers size X, wipes, a few toys, a high chair and a swing. Do you have a baby monitor? I also have a 10-year-old boy that is skinny but fits into boy’s medium 10-12 just fine. He needs shirts, jeans, a pair of sweat pants, pajamas, socks and underwear and likes hoodies. He could use a pair of winter boots and shoes size 7. He also loves anything football and has a birthday coming up. He needs a new toothbrush, deodorant, and shampoo or body wash.
Foster parents that are licensed with DHHS or a private agency with a current placement(s), parents who have adopted out of the foster system, and kinship/relative placements through DHHS or a private agency in any county are welcome to shop. If you have taken a new placement since your last visit, you are eligible to shop again for that placement.
A photo ID and your placement or adoption paperwork are REQUIRED every time you shop. If you have shopped here before, please bring your IKEA bag with you.
Pick up times vary based upon our available volunteers.
Please let all of your licensed foster parents know about the Macomb Foster Closet. Caseworkers are welcome to shop for a foster parent although you are required to show your Agency ID and placement paperwork for the child you are shopping for. We do not provide items for families going through the licensing process.
If you have taken an emergency placement and need items before our next open hours, we can help. Please send us a Facebook message and one of our volunteers will open just for you. Please have your placement paperwork showing that you just took a placement.
We are dedicated to helping the lives of children in foster care. Your contribution today makes that happen.
